Be a Volunteer!
IGSI is a totally volunteer organization. And we appreciate the time and talent of those members who regularly help in the many projects and activities of the Society. Yet there are always new projects and committees needing helpers. Every one of us has apparent and hidden talents and skills, many of which will benefit the growth of IGSI. Without your help, that won't happen. Please give a little time and help us keep IGSI strong.
No matter where you live, what you like to do, the amount of time you can spare, or how much responsibility you want to take, it's likely we can find something that needs doing that fits you.
How to Volunteer
If you are interested in helping with any of the volunteer opportunities listed above –
Please send your name, email address and phone number to the IGSI volunteer coordinator, with a note as to what volunteer role interests you. If you have expertise or talents to share in another area, tell us your interests and how you can help.
IGSI Volunteer Opportunities
New Website: Check/Update Research Resource Links – Work From Home
As we move to the new website, we have discovered any of the Research Resource links to other websites are old and link to nothing. Check and update the list. Perhaps even continue to monitor the research links.
Irish Saturday Research Assistant – Twin Cities area
Do you have research skills, have finished much of your family research? Are you willing to share your expertise with those just starting their research? You will work with other IGSI research volunteers to learn the library materials and to help with the public research. Give research direction, answer questions on Irish genealogy or the library computers during Irish Saturday (second Saturday of each month). Training will be provided by IGSI and start out at your level of comfort.
Library Welcome Volunteer – Twin Cities area
Not sure that you have the skills to help researchers but still interested in meeting IGSI members? Come work at the welcome desk in the Minnesota Genealogy Center on Irish Saturdays (second Saturday of each month). Work half or full day: morning (9:30 – 1) or afternoon (1 – 4:30) shifts are available. Training is provided and others who know the desk will be available to assist.
Publicity Coordinator – Work from home
Do you have a knowledge of / are talented in publicity and promotional activities? Or an interest in this area? IGSI is sorely lacking in talent and direction to raise the public’s awareness of our organization and activities.
2020 Celtic Connections Conference Planning - Twin Cities Area, Chicago Area, or Work from home
It’s not too early to start planning for the next Celtic Connections Conference, for which IGSI will be the host city. Volunteers will help with various activities: venue selection, speaker selection, event promotion, or in the areas of sponsorships, exhibitors, registration, and more.
