All IGSI efforts are provided by volunteers, with only a few paid roles. We treasure the time and talents of our many members, friends, and neighbors who help us to sustain and improve the Society. Fresh ideas, energy, and talents are welcome and essential.
Many of our volunteers serve from their homes across North America and beyond. If you are able to come to Mendota Heights you have options to help in our Library and with live events. Whether in-person or online, your talents and skills make our goals for the Society possible. Even if you have only limited time to share with IGSI, you will connect with a wonderful group of people.
How to Volunteer

volunteer coordinator for information or to share your interests and skills, even if nothing similar is listed below. We would love to have you join our family of volunteers, and are happy to craft a role to suit your time and interests!
Ongloing Volunteer Opportunities: Training and partnership are provided to new teammates!
- Social Media support - Our marketing team supports Facebook, Instagram, and our YouTube Podcast efforts. We welcome help with content creation, interviews, video editing, and podcast production. Learn from our experts!
- Membership support - As we transition to a more advanced website, there are options for testing and new reporting tools. Join our Membership and Tech chairs as part of a team, then branch out using our latest online tools to serve members and our operations.
- Minnesota Genealogy Center - Library and office tasks (especially on Wednesdays & each 2nd Sat), and help during live events!
- Writing for Publications – Submissions and suggestions are always welcome for our bimonthly newsletter and quarterly journal. Is there a theme or topic you would like to see included in a future issue? Let us know!
Short-Term Volunteer options: typically a 1-4 week commitment
- 📱 Social Media Creator
Help us draft 3–4 Instagram Reels sharing cool Irish history facts or stories.
- 🎨 Canva Designer
Create graphics for our social media or website posts promoting events and sharing genealogy news.
- 🎙️ Podcast Interviewer
Create a few 10-minute Q&A videos with researchers, historians, and subject matter experts for inclusion in our podcast. No special expertise or equipment needed; a smarphone selfie would work fine!
