Why Should You Join IGSI?
So why do nearly 800 individuals/organizations belong to the Irish Genealogical Society International (IGSI)?
- Members receive IGSI's award-winning quarterly journal, The Septs.
- Members receive Genealis, IGSI's quarterly eNewsletter.
- Members can attend informative classes at a reduced rate (generally $10). Most classes are held on Irish Saturday, the second Saturday of the month.
- Many benefits are described on the IGSI website at http://irishgenealogical.org under "IGSI Offerings." (The members-only website is worthy of its own posting another day.)
- Members can do research (at no cost) at the Minnesota Genealogical Society (MGS) library. IGSI's Irish collection is one of the largest and most complete in the USA. The Irish collection is housed along with other libraries of MGS and its affiliated branches. And what Irish family doesn't include non-Irish ancestry?
- Members can query Irish Origins, an online subscription site that's free at the MGS library.
- Irish volunteer research staff will work directly with members (no charge!) at the library on Irish Saturdays. Often, volunteer researchers can be available for out-of-town members who aren't able to visit the library on Irish Saturday or during usual library hours.
- Members can request copies of documents/publications/maps found in our library collection.
- Members can shop at IGSI's online bookstore. (Well, to be perfectly honest, everyone can purchase publications at our bookstore...)
- If you hit a brick wall in your research - or you prefer to pay an experienced Irish researcher to help you progress - you can get the help you need at $15 per hour.
- You'll be notified of special meetings/speakers, including IGSI's annual post-St Patrick's Day get-together.
