Who Belongs to IGSI?

Who Belongs to IGSI?

Have you ever wondered about the membership of Irish Genealogical Society International (IGSI)?  Where are their members located? Are they really an international organization? The total number of IGSI members ebbs and flows. As of 1 April 2014, the total IGSI membership was 714.  IGSI has 27 international members, located in four foreign countries: Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and United Kingdom. IGSI members represent 44 U.S. states, spread among geographical areas as follows:
  • West: 100   (California is highest with 46 members)
  • Midwest: 400 (Minnesota is highest with 258 members; Wisconsin is next with 42)
  • South: 76 (Florida is highest with 30 members)
  • Northeast: 111 (New York and Massachusetts are highest with 27 and 25, respectively)
We'd like to recruit more members from everywhere but especially the six states which currently have no IGSI representation: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Wyoming. We know there are residents (of those states and others) who have Irish ancestry and could benefit from IGSI membership. Speaking of which, check out our August 2013 blog posting about why you should join and how: http://blog.irishgenealogical.org/?p=1337
