U.S. Genealogical & Historical Societies

U.S. Genealogical & Historical Societies

A new reference guide entitled United States Genealogical and Historical Societies has been posted on The Ancestor Hunt blog.

The four-page pdf includes links to 125 genealogical and historical societies and can be downloaded for free. IGSI is listed on the first page with other national, lineage and ethnic societies! State societies are listed on subsequent pages.

This 'quick sheet' could be a handy resource when your research takes you to a new locale or ethnicity. Here's a partial description from the blog:

"Some of the great places to start researching for genealogy records are in genealogical and historical societies. There are many national ones that span multiple states, and each state has them. Each society has collections and records available that will aid in your research. Some are accessible for non-members and even more are accessible for those who have purchased a membership...These societies, plus local genealogical and historical societies have an abundance of online resources for members and non-members alike and some have great libraries."
