Irish Birth Information and Tracing Act
Effective October 3, the Irish Birth Information and Tracing Act of 2022 will allow "full and clear right of access to birth certificates, birth and early life information for all persons who were adopted, boarded out, the subject of an illegal birth registration or who otherwise have questions in relation to their origins."
This applies to persons who were adopted from Ireland to other countries, as well as persons adopted in Ireland who later emigrated. The new law will be a game-changer for adoptees and families seeking information about biological parentage.
A good summary of the legislation can be found on the website of the Chicago Irish Consulate.
