The Irish government's recent press release about an additional year of birth/marriage/death records--posted here 9 Feb 2026--included the 1975 obituary of Éamon de Valera.

I was reminded of an old blog posting about de Valera (and surprised my query disclosed it was written way back in 2014!) In the absence of more significant genealogy news at the time, I wrote a series of articles on the theme "What's in the box?" (WITB), reflecting on historic and/or sentimental items found in our basement. You can read the de Valera posting here.

For the January 2022 issue of The Septs and its "Irish Centenary, 1922-2022" theme, I enlarged on the correspondence discovered in the box to write "Irish-Americans Buy Bonds to Fund the New Republic."

While lots of genealogy and Irish history details can be found on our blog, the amount of information available at your fingertips increases exponentially if you're an IGSI member. Online Septs journals going back to 1981 await! Click the Join tab at left and discover what you're missing.
