DPLA is a portal to books, photographs, sound recordings, and other content held in American libraries, archives and museums. One can search any number of ways, including by subject, place, date, virtual bookshelf, exhibition, and unique apps. While not strictly a genealogical library, you're likely to find something of interest, and the site bears watching as more items are added. Even the web address for DPLA is unique: dp.la. (That's truly all there is to it.) A helpful video about using the library can be viewed at: https://video.utah.edu/media/t/0_ycqksy9v.
- DPLA has two large family Bible collections -- over 2100 (transcribed) from the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources and another 90 from the South Carolina Digital Library.
- Over 2 million ebooks are fully open on DPLA and free to read. (Plans are underway to expand the collection.) Search ebooks by the subject "genealogy" and you'll find 239 books and periodicals, many of which are published family histories.
- DPLA images include many birth and death records, e.g., over 277,000 death certificates from the Utah State Archives.
- Over 20,000 Tewksbury Almshouse intake records are available through the Public Health Museum in Massachusetts.
- Nearly 70 naturalization records (1842-1908) can be viewed from Troup County, Georgia.
- , 'Serendip-o-matic', allows you to type (or cut-and-paste) text, and all sorts of related images are "serendipitously" presented for your selection. What a creative way to find illustrations for a Powerpoint presentation! (You'll be able to find quickly whether or not there are any copyright limitations.)
