1385 Mendota Heights Road

How do you refer to the building at 1385 Mendota Heights Road?

MGS (for Minnesota Genealogical Society)? Or MGS Library?

Irish Genealogical Society Intl (IGSI) President Ann Eccles recently helped us clarify what’s most correct:

“While we all informally in conversation refer to the Mendota Heights location as "MGS", when we publish information for our members -- and John Q. Public -- related to IGSI events, we should try to keep all references in sync with our identity.  IGSI is a separate non-profit society which leases from MGS at the MGC.

Because so many genealogy societies share the library and the meeting space in Mendota Heights, MGS and other societies have agreed to use separate terminology to identify the location.

When talking about the facility meeting space, the term to use is the Minnesota Genealogy Center (or MGC).  When talking about the library, MGS prefers the full official name of the library -- William J Hoffman Library and Research Center.

Yes, we sometimes mention “IGSI library”, but we are usually referencing the IGSI collection.  (And we are still getting accustomed to this terminology.)”

So, we'll see you at the MGC, where we can research the Irish collection housed in the William J Hoffman Library and Research Center.
