10 Million Names

10 Million Names

This July 4, 10 Million Names is featured on ABC News in a groundbreaking story about the White House and the legacy of slavery.

10 Million Names is a collaborative effort dedicated to finding the names of the estimated 10 million men, women, and children who were enslaved in what is now the United States, from the 1500s to emancipation.

They are recovering and restoring those names to their families in the form of free, searchable databases. People researching their family history will now be able to look for enslaved ancestors online using this website.

Tomorrow on Good Morning America, millions of Americans will learn about a groundbreaking research discovery made by the 10 Million Names team at American Ancestors!

Show host Robin Roberts will uncover the extraordinary human story behind one of the nation’s most iconic landmarks: the White House. In a genealogical breakthrough years in the making, Roberts and American Ancestors staff will sit down with the first confirmed living descendants of an enslaved individual who helped build it.
