Social Media Mavericks
Family Tree Magazine periodically publishes "best" lists, such as their "101 Best Genealogy Websites 2013." This week they released "Social Media Mavericks: 40 to Follow." The latest Family Tree Magazine "best" list includes top genealogy bloggers, Tweeters, Facebookers, Pinners and YouTubers "who'll keep you in the know."
I'm disappointed we haven't made the list (yet); nonetheless, their recommendations provide good leads to other resources. Their "75 Best State Genealogy Websites in 2013" is really handy if your family members have scattered to the four winds and settled in areas for which you have little/no research experience. Databases are listed by state and can be searched with ancestors' names. Some are indexes, and copies of the original records must be ordered for a fee. Others have free digital images of the record. Looking at death records on the Washington state site, I found a potential lead for a Swedish-lumberjack-ancestor.Family Tree Magazine also posts articles with intriguing titles like "10 Easy Tips for Using Ancestry.com" and "Genealogy Workbook: Passenger Lists," as well as monthly podcasts.
