U.S. Historical Law Guides by state
Thanks to Donna Jones, Co-President of IGSI, for this tip:
Jeniann Nielsen has created U.S. Historical Law Guides and provides this description:
“Marriage, probate, land, tax, and court records are important records for U.S. genealogy research. Understanding the historical laws that were in effect at the time the records were created is helpful for interpreting them accurately. A historical law guide has been created for each U.S. state from the time of settlement to 1950 that summarizes some of the important laws in plain terms.”
Each guides covers: general principles, age of adulthood, marriage, property ownership, inheritance, taxation, court, sources and where to verify.
Donna also notes that Jeniann's website, ldsgenealogy.com, is privately owned and not an official site of the LDS Church.
