PERSI

PERSI

The latest Findmypast Friday enhancement included new images and articles from the PERiodical Source Index (PERSI). PERSI is a good source of family history information - and often overlooked. Here's a brief overview drawn from a comprehensive FamilySearch article about PERSI:
  • PERSI, created and maintained by staff at the Allen County Public Library (ACPL) , is the largest subject index to genealogy and family history periodical articles in the world.
  • PERSI is not an every name or every word index. Entries are by location and record type, surname as subject, or how-to topic.
  • The article title listed in the index may not be exactly as it appeared in the periodical.
  • Article title entries are limited to 150 characters.
  • PERSI is searchable at HeritageQuestOnline.com. Although a subscription is required, HeritageQuestionOnline is often available through public libraries and may even be accessible at home with a library card.
  • PERSI is also available through Findmypast. com.

Digital images of PERSI articles are becoming increasingly available online at Findmypast based on their partnership with the Allen County Public Library - thus, the recent announcement. Some of the titles included in yesterday's image update came from Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Utah. Findmypast promises more to come.
