Irish ancestors in Canada? Were they 19th century Fenian supporters?

If you answered "yes" to those questions, your ancestors could be the reason some new Fold3 records exist (but their names aren't likely to be listed).

Between 1866 and 1871 the Fenians attempted to get the British to withdraw from Ireland by making armed raids in Canada. In response, the Canadian Militia in Quebec and Ontario was called out to quell the uprising, and later the Canadian government offered $100 bounties to those who served. The Fold3 collection, organized into alphabetical order, contains the names of men who applied for bounties.
