MOMS and Minnesota Marriages
Researching females in your family tree can be challenging. If you have ancestors who lived (and/or married) in Minnesota, you might be lucky!
The Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS), launched in 2010, is an excellent resource for doing family history research: http://www.mncounty.com/Modules/Certificates/Marriage/Default.aspx:
MOMS allows a researcher to sort marriage data using the bride's name, the groom's name, the date of the marriage, and the county maintaining the record. And it's free!! (Marriage certificates can be ordered for a fee.)
While the site is very helpful, it's not perfect. You may find names duplicated or misspelled - or missing entirely in some counties. Nonetheless, I've found marriage records here that I didn't find anywhere else. Records for some of the larger counties (e.g., Hennepin, Ramsey) are incomplete on MOMS. Check out the tab showing county index dates to see what period is covered for each county.
Ancestry.com (requiring a subscription) offers two marriage collections: the Minnesota Marriage Index (1849-1950) and the Minnesota Marriage Collection (1958-2001). Apparently, MOMS would be the best place to find marriages between 1950 and 1958. Ancestry also offers a Minnesota Divorce Index (1970-1995).
Sometimes one has to compare details on multiple sites to unlock family history secrets.
