LOC Veterans History Project
The Library of Congress (LOC) Veterans History Project was created by Congress in 2000, to collect and preserve firsthand interviews of America's wartime veterans. If you've been following this blog for a while, you may recall postings about my research regarding 84 signers of a WWII banner. These soldiers had served in the 358th Infantry, Cannon Company, and while I wasn't able to find any surviving signers, I did connect with 32 families. This morning I was able to view a 61-minute interview with one of the men whose name appears on the banner, Delwin A. Thompson.
Here's the link to the LOC Veterans History Project: www.loc.gov/vets/vets-home.html. You can construct queries to Search the Veterans Collection in several ways. (I found Thompson by looking for "358th Infantry, Cannon Company.") Maybe you'll find an interview with someone you know, or wish you'd known.
