Glasnevin Cemetery on Find A Grave

Glasnevin Cemetery on Find A Grave

Glasnevin Cemetery, located in north Dublin, is the largest cemetery in Ireland. During the last week or so, over 650,000 Glasnevin memorials have been added to the free Find A Grave website, reportedly uploaded by a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) and with more to come. This will be a remarkable boost to anyone researching Dublin family history.

As of this morning, 728,678 Glasnevin memorials can be viewed on Find A Grave. Click here to start searching.

Established in 1832, Glasnevin Cemetery has grown from its original nine acres to over 120 acres with 1.5 million burials. On our last visit to Ireland, we enjoyed an informative tour of the cemetery and saw graves of prominent national figures and an amazing array of monument styles. If you're planning a tour of the cemetery or looking for family graves located there, check out the Glasnevin Cemetery map from the Dublin Historic Maps website.

Thanks to Claire Santry for sharing the Find A Grave development in the Sept 4th posting on her IrishGenealogyNews blog, where you can read more.
