Irish researchers should stay tuned to Shane Wilson's website with its valuable collection of maps and databases, at www.swilson.info/.

New and improved features are added regularly. A recent update was the new Townland Browse page. One can select any combination of county, barony, poor law union or civil parish and quickly identify the towns and townlands within that area. Being able to search this way could have many benefits.

When I queried County Tipperary and the civil parish of Toem (North Riding), I quickly learned there were 36 townlands and one town (Cappagh White). What I had never seen before was a listing of the number of acres in each townland. No wonder so many families lived in Cahernahallia (the Hickey townland of origin)! According to the Townland Search, Cahernahallia is comprised of 827 acres.
