The McClelland Irish Library in Phoenix
Happy to be in a warm place like Phoenix, we were doubly happy to visit the McClelland Library yesterday. What an impressive facility! Their pamphlet describes it this way:
The McClelland Irish Library is a three-story building which resembles a traditional 12th century Norman castle from the Emerald Isle. The first floor contains the main collection of Irish books, magazines, and newspapers covering Irish literature, history, politics, and biography. A large Reading Room adjacent to the open book stacks accommodates researches and students of Irish history. A Periodicals Room with chairs for reading The Irish Times and current Irish magazines is nearby. Also on the first floor, the Centers copy of the Book of Kells is on permanent display. A general collection of books may be checked out by members of the Irish Cultural Center/McClelland Irish Library and these are used on the first floor. The second floor houses the Genealogy and Reference collections, which are primarily for research and do not circulate.
If you visit the Phoenix area, you should put the McClelland Irish Library on your must-do list.
