Remembering heroes
Today is the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Coming on the heels of Memorial Day as well as the 12th anniversary of my mother's death, the D-Day commemoration is a time for me to remember and celebrate heroes. And, quoting a newspaper story today about Normandy beaches, "to contemplate the cruel specter of the what-might-have-been. The things undone, the lives unlived."
In 2013 I found a unique WWII artifact in the South Dakota house where my mom had lived and which we still own. I blogged about the banner at the time, and I subsequently wrote an article about it for the Minnesota Genealogist.
However I don't think I ever posted an update here or shared a link to the website we created to tell the story.
You can read here about Cannon Company heroes and my search for their families.
