New TIGS headstone database

New TIGS headstone database

The Troy Irish Genealogy Society (TIGS) works tirelessly at transcribing records. Their latest accomplishment: a database of over 1000 Civil War and Spanish-American War veterans buried in Albany County (NY) cemeteries. Read more about the data elements contained in the new TIGS military headstone collection. While you're visiting the TIGS website, take a closer look at all the transcription projects and other links behind the Projects and Resources tabs. I found enticing prospects under the Local History tab about the link between Troy and Emly, Ireland. As the crow flies, Emly is only about 10 miles from the Hickey ancestral townland of Cahernahallia.

This reminded me about a census entry I found early in my research. At one time I thought I'd found my husband's great-grandfather and two of his siblings in the 1850 U.S. Federal Census, living in Rensselaer County, New York. I later discounted/dismissed the finding for various reasons. Could they be part of the Troy/Emly connection? Back to the drawing board.
