Irish Lives Remembered - Easter 2016

Eneclann has taken over publishing the e-magazine Irish Lives Remembered, and its first quarterly issue commemorates the 100th anniversary of Easter Rising. The publication continues the high standards established by Eileen Munnelly and her Millenium Media team. The current issue contains one intriguing story after another. In addition to articles about new sources (e.g., indexes to Irish parish records and the historic parish registers at Christ Church, Limerick), you'll find intriguing stories about:
  • Irish emigration in Vermont;
  • Two Irish-American soldiers wounded during the Civil War with a "small-world" connection to St Albans, Vermont;
  • An elderly Irish man who secured a pension based on his son's service/death in the American Civil War;
  • Families of those involved in the Easter Rising - and how to trace more details about them;
  • "The O'Sullivans," the first of a new series exploring the origins of Irish surnames;
  • New Zealand's response to the 1916 Easter rising.
Perhaps my favorite was "Children of the Rising: the untold story of the young lives lost during Easter 1916," by Joe Duffy. You'll want to read every word and linger over every photograph. This issue also includes an interview with Duffy, whose book (with the same title as the article) has become Ireland's best-selling history on 1916. Irish Lives Remembered continues to be free online. Don't miss it! Find the link to the Easter edition here: www.eneclann.ie/2016/03/easter-edition-of-irish-lives-remembered/.
