GEDmatch

GEDmatch

I've stepped into new territory. This week I uploaded my husband Bill's DNA results to GEDmatch. I'm waiting for batch processing to be completed. What's GEDmatch? According to the DNA Testing Adviser website, GEDmatch is: a website with various utilities that can help genealogists and adoptees build, confirm and expand their family trees... To participate in this site, you must have results from at least one of these three autosomal DNA tests:
  • Family Finder (FTDNA)
  • 23andMe
  • Ancestry DNA
Once you get your results, you can download your raw data from the testing site and import it into this site. Since the site accepts data from all three autosomal DNA tests, those who have taken only one or two of the tests will almost certainly discover additional matches. That's because SOME users of each test you missed will have uploaded their data here... Here's the link to DNA Testing Advisor's complete explanation: www.dna-testing-adviser.com/GEDmatch.html. While we're on the subject, through September 2 you can download - for free - the Kindle edition of Richard Hill's book, How to Identify Ancestors, Confirm Relationships, and Measure Ethnic Ancestry through DNA Testing. It was rated four stars by Amazon reviewers. Get it here:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O5SCY02. Richard Hill is the man behind the DNA Testing Adviser website and blog. After discovering he was adopted, Hill started a life-long study of DNA tests. His blog carries a series of stories about adoptees finding their birth families as well as other DNA-related tips. (By the way, if you don't have a Kindle, you can read Kindle books on other devices (e.g., smartphones, i-Pads, tablets, PCs, etc.) by downloading a free app on Amazon: www.amazon.com/kindle-dbs/fd/kcp.)
