The Irish Genealogical Society International (IGSI) and the Canadian Interest Group (CIG) of the Minnesota Genealogical Society are partnering to offer an exciting learning opportunity. This FREE webinar is available to all CIG and IGSI members.
Being the 4th largest ethnic group in Canada according to census records, the Irish Canadians have been coming to Canada since the 1500s. Follow the migration trails the Irish took from Ireland to Canada and learn where they settled, becoming part of the fabric of a nation and what information is available on these hardy folk. A timeline of historical migration will be discussed along with available records that created a permanent stamp on their Irish existence in Canada.
You will learn:
- Historical migration to Canada and its provinces like Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario and the western provinces;
- 1820s Irish to Upper Canada (Ontario);
- Famine Migration (1846-1850);
- What information is available on these specific groups of Irish migrants to Canada including The McCabe List, early Irish in the Ottawa Valley, Peter Robinson Settlers from 1825 (Cork to Ottawa Valley), Grosse Ile, Quebec (1832-1837); and,
- Irish Canadians to the U.S.
